Moving town hall 1899

There had long been dissatisfaction with the location of the Town Hall at University and Sacramento. An editorial in the Berkeley Gazette stated: “It is just inside the limits of nowhere, and the officers and citizens of Berkeley always feel that the trip to the town hall is in reality a visit to the rural districts of the frontier, where the wild grape has withered and died and the emaciated jack rabbit no longer hops against hope.” The move took a month, and the town officials continued doing business there during that time.
